Are pricier or imported supplements better?

Does daily vitamin C prevent colds?

A large review of more than 10,000 people found daily vitamin C barely changed how often ordinary adults caught colds. It only shortened them by about 8%. Marathon runners and similar groups were the exception. A kiwi and an orange cover most of a day's need.

Can bone broth really give you calcium?

Bone calcium barely dissolves into broth. A bowl holds only a few milligrams up to a dozen or so, while a glass of milk has about 250 mg. The white color is fat, along with purines and salt. Milk, tofu and dark leafy greens are better sources.

Is more always better with supplements?

No. Vitamins A, D and E dissolve in fat and build up in the body, so each has a daily upper limit. Vitamin C and the B vitamins dissolve in water and the excess is mostly flushed out, though long-term high doses of B6 still carry risk. Take what you need, at the labeled dose.
